Insult or Praise: While reading through todays punch newspaper, a story caught my attention. The story on page 8 of Wednesday December 17, 2014 Punch newspaper is captioned Old people, cause of Nigerias trouble- Jonathan. The story quoted GEJ as saying that anything that the old people like him are involved in, it is always a problem. He further claimed Young people are involved in sport, soccer, athletics and so on, and within the period that i have been here as VP and president, they have been bringing glory to us. He talked about young people been involved in music and movies and old politicians abusing one another. Though this seems like a compliment to our generation as youths, however, closer observation will show that the statement carries more insults than praise. 1. The Nigerian youths have found comfort in sport and entertainment and have left the governance of this great nation in the hands of a few greedy elements found in the older generation, this class of Nigerians are bent of finishing off our collective wealth. The presidents praise further shows the lack of interest of the youths in the political and economic development of Nigeria. Entertainment and sport are secondary issues in Nation building, thus the president has passed an insult to us the youth. simply interpreted as Please go ahead and be singing and dancing by the time you realize what is happening, they the older generation would have totally destroyed the economy that your music and movie is contributing little to. 2. What is really wrong with our youths: Is the president assuming that we like faaji so much so that we are not concern about governance and economy? Why wasnt the president able to give other examples of areas where the youths have excelled? Clearly, the man is only seeing Dbanj and Davido. Youths are engaged in science and technology development in Nigeria yet GEJ only saw entertainment. The Nigeria youth has a lot more to offer this country beyond the thinking of Mr. President. We the youth need to rise up to the task of nation building and governance, we can not continue to sit down in the boys quarters of power and allow ourselves be use a tools to election victory. The absence of youth in the presidential race for 2015 is a clear demonstration of where the older class place us. On a lighter note, can someone please tell the president that sport, soccer and athletics means the same thing. Nigeria youth please rise to call to governance. Thank you
