Interesting day... Looking through old photographs to find some of my mentor and primary teacher, Conrad Susa. As I did this-- I realized that I have not had a photo of any part of my life in the last many years that is not digital, saved on some hard drive. I also had a Hard Drive die on me in the last 24-hrs with some info not backed up.. Then realized all photos of my life could vanish with a few drives (main and backup) dying. Even cloud is not really secure. Are we in a new era where everything we do is digital only out of convenience? What would you do if EVERY drive and back up with your computer was erased TODAY?? Imagine every photo of your life from the last 5 yrs gone in a nanosecond. What if cyber-terrorism or aliens for that matter erased every hard drive on the planet-- HDs are magnetic, DVDs and CDs are also and magnetic.. Something to think about--- maybe important life events should be printed on GOOD photo paper and stored. It would be sad to loose everything except memories. Back to stone age and carvings / papirus. I guess its a thought to realize that our existence can be gone in flash and the ancient Egyptians use of stone carvings will outlast the current us.
