Interesting news from Portland Opera today regarding switching show offerings to a festival style (condensed) summer model. Joanna and I have been discussing lately what the musica intima season should look like… in an increasingly saturated Vancouver arts market, and subscriptions declining as an industry trend, would arts organizations fare better on condensed schedules? I’m intrigued by Marc Scorca of Opera America’s thoughts: “People buy into a larger cultural experience than just going to the opera on a Wednesday night in March.” Has the era of the self-product concert series ended?
