Interesting post on axaspeaks: Our beaches As a person who loves Barnes Bay I would like to know who has given Viceroy permission to bring a backhoe onto the beach and push the sand into a big pile at the eastern most point of the beach. They have done this not once, but twice and no one seems to care about it. I care, because if you know that beach you would know that mother nature always brings in sand and takes it back out and redistributes the sand on that beach constantly back and forth from the eastern point of that beach to the western point of that beach. The problem that Viceroy is creating is that by them taking the sand from directly east of Caribella Resort and piling it up at the eastern most point of the beach, behind the sea wall that they have constructed, mother nature cant get at it to pull it back out and redistribute it back to where it originally took it from. This is creating an imbalance for the rest of the beach. If you look directly to the west of Caribella Resort this area has exposed rocks that you would not see this time of year. They would be exposed during the winter if you have a ground sea and then sand would come back and cover them after that. I feel this is a direct result of the sand that Viceroy is hoarding at the eastern end of the beach. Correct me if I am wrong but I was always told that the beaches are public, not private, so how can they be allowed to do this? Where is the National Trust on this issue? By bringing a backhoe onto the beach like this you are destroying the natural nesting areas of the turtles that have come onto this beach to lay eggs. I personally have seen turtles hatch on this beach many times over the many years that I have lived on Anguilla. I am deeply troubled by what government is not doing about this. Our beaches are the primary reason tourist come to Anguilla and if you allow developers to carelessly abuse them then we will destroy the island. At the very least Viceroy needs to be forced to put the sand back to the exact spot which they removed it from which is directly east of in front of Caribella Resort. Anguilla cant afford to have another beach destroyed by reckless behavior from human beings. This nonsense needs to stop immediately! I am a concerned person who loves Barnes Bay and all of the beautiful beaches of Anguilla!
