International architectural design workshop Port Said_Egypt (12th Sep- 19thSep) 2014 Call for Participation In the context of the cooperation between Cairo, Alexandria and Cottbus universities the joint architectural workshop aims at initiating a rehabilitation process for the unique architectural and urban heritage of Port Said, of Ismailia and Suez. The workshop is part of joint research activities that aim at proposing the protection of the architectural and urban heritage of the Suez Canal region as UNESCO World Heritage. The workshop will focus on research and survey of houses with a “second skin” of wood along the facades in both, the European and the Arab quarter of Port Said in an attempt to establish its origin and local adaptations and start to develop future strategies for reevaluation, maintenance and adaptive re-use. Architecture students from Egypt (Cairo University & Alexandria University) and Germany (University of Cottbus) will work together in teams, supervised by an internationally composed group of teachers. Aug 20th: Deadline for application @12:00 midnight Conditions for Acceptance: Motivated students with good command of English will be selected to participate in the workshop from Alexandria University.
