Introducting our choreographer! Growing up under the dance direction of Vanda Maunder, and later, other various instructors, Krista Fowler maintained a focus on classical ballet, studying Cecchetti method and spending summers training at the Royal Winnipeg Ballet and The Alberta Ballet School. She then made the leap to Toronto where she completed the Commercial Dance Studies program at George Brown College. The program focused on musical theatre, hip hop, jazz and other disciplines common in the commercial field of dance. Krista’s previous choreography credits include Rising Tide Theatre, George Brown College, N.V.US Dance Troupe (also co-founder), Vanda Maunder Dance Studio and Harbour Music & Dance. Since moving back to Newfoundland, she’s had the pleasure of teaching various dance styles at MAX Dance, and The Dance Centre in St. John’s before re-locating to Bay Roberts and co-founding the Harbour Music & Dance Studio. She now happily teaches her uniquely designed programs: Broadway Bratz musical theatre classes in tandem with her partner in crime, Calvin Powell, Harbour Boyz hip hop classes, and the Youngstarz Dance Intensive program, as well as DanStart with the Vanda Maunder Dance Studio. She has performed as an actor and a dancer on stage as well as on film. Some credits include: feature performance with Company Verve at Dance Ontario; Toronto pride Parade performer with N.V.US; dancing in commercial campaigns; lead dancer in a music video (Chris Rouse - Honey); company member of Rising Tide Theatre in the 2007 and 2009 seasons; dancer in numerous TaDa Entertainment productions, including Our Divas Do Christmas, Our Divas Do Broadway and Chicago. Krista will also be seen on Stage at the Arts and Culture Centre in February, 2015 as a dancer in Atlantic Light Theatre’s production of Spamalot. If you look closely, you’ll spot her tonight on stage as a dancer in the ensemble. Krista’s thrilled to have had the opportunity to team up with her husband, Calvin, and Paul Wilson of ACT and hopes to continue this collaboration in the future. Along with being a co-producer of Annie: The Musical, Krista is thrilled to be in the role of choreographer for a major musical production for the first time, and hopes you thoroughly enjoy what has been one of her most rewarding professional accomplishments!
