Investigation into syncrolift incident at Walvis Bay harbour Work at the Walvis Bay syncrolift at the harbour was abruptly halted earlier today. (Sunday 1 June 2014) A cable is believed to have snapped of the lift platform during an operation to lift a vessel out of the water for repairs on land. At 08:00 eyewitnesses reported to Informanté the lift platform remained in a sunken position and technicians had to make a decision whether to have the vessel on the platform removed by tugboat. According to the CEO of Namport, Bisey Uirab, the vessel is still on the lift platform. In the meantime we are investigating what were the causes of this incident and try to determine the monetary damage of this case.
