Iron Flow -Extract pt2- I noticed hundreds of seamless wrinkled cracks splayed across the face of the glacier and then as if the mountain had died, the agonizing screams from the frozen giant stopped and we became suspended in an ever-growing, formidable iron curtain. The wind stopped. The snow ceased to fall. All that could be seen was the bleak but beautiful landscape of mountains and glaciers, most of which were piercing the jubilant heavens above. I stood in awe as the beauty of the scenery cascaded into my mind, taking in deep gulps of the fresh pure welkin of the expanse I felt closer to god than ever before. I gazed down and saw the clouds dancing in unison with one another. The end of the path was in sight and so with great determination I brought my eyes back to the path. I straightened my back again and continued side stepping. In the distance I could see one lonely eagle sawing through the air and cutting swiftly in and out of the cloud line. I was perplexed to see how something so elegant could possibly live with its self and yet have no sense of yearning. I stared in awe at how free it was. Though I suppose in one way or another the eagle was a slave to its unjustified lonesome. I began to continue my solemn journey once more. Taking step after step I still felt that I wasn’t getting any nearer my goal of perhaps I was heading in the wrong direction. It’s hard to believe where I am now compared to where I came from. I’ve lost everything, my home, my family. I’ve been stripped bare of my manhood, my name even my freedom and yet I still push myself further and further. The glacier groaned and I was taken away from my thoughts and back into reality. The glacier gently started to shake and the ground beneath us beginning to waver. Instantly I was filled with a sense of deep dread like I had swallowed misfortune itself. I almost lost my footing but I kept my balance none the less. I turned back and saw Michaeleus and Steven bent double and glaring wide eyed at me. A look of fearfulness and regret painted on their palled faces. “We must hurry before this thing collapses!” I shouted to them with slight dolour. They both hesitated before hastily making their way towards me. I turned back and started to walk with elongated strides. I was beginning to sweat. Shockingly the groaning burst into a shuddering below. The fissures exploded and disgorged rivers of ice shards and snow. I panicked and broke out into an adrenalin fuelled sprint. My vision ever so slightly blurring from the vast amounts of sweat now pouring down my face, the sweat was extremely hot despite the frost biting cold and stung my eyes. My blood ran cold.
