Is Everything Rubbish Compared to Knowing Christ? I know we would like to think so. But honestly do we feel or even live that way? Truthfully, I think the value we place on God coincides with earthly valuables we possess. It likes the rich man who was asked by Jesus to give up everything he owned to follow Jesus. Riches and Jesus, he counted on, but not CHRIST alone. Push the pause button. I need more time to think about this, Jesus. Give up everything? Sad face. We or I may not be there, but when we daily surrender our wills to His will, we become more like Him and will progressively be able to count it all rubbish! And freely live that way too. Keep in mind growing in Christ means less separation anxiety from the things to which we are attached. I once thought these things (worldly pursuits, riches, status, popularity) were valuable, but now I consider them worthless because of what Christ has done. Yes, everything else is worthless when compared with the infinite value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have discarded everything else, counting it all as garbage, so that I could gain Christ and become one with him. (Philippians 3:7-9 NLT)
