Is it just me, or are people giving the PS TV bad scores and a heck of a lot of hard time even though it is an amazing device? I keep hearing its hard to find a use for it, but is it really? Dont own any PS consoles? for 140$, you get a console, controller, memory card, and can download and play many Vita titles (many of which regularly go on sale for ridiculously low prices), many PSP titles, many PS1 titles, and possibly even get 2 controllers to use with those PS1 titles and Vita titles that support 2 controllers on PS TV (currently only Nidhogg) Only own a PS3? for 100$ and the price of an 8GB vita card (20$ on Amazon) you get access to the PSP and Vita libraries, as well as many PS+ free titles you may have downloaded for Vita if youre subscribed to PS+. Only own a PS4? see above for PS3, but you also get to use your PS4 controllers on it, which IMO are better contorllers, and you can use it to remote play to your PS4 with a wired connection from pretty much anywhere. Own both PS3/PS4? See above, except now your likelihood to have PS+ and a ton of games already on your account for Vita multiplies dramatically. Own all 3 consoles? You get to use your digitally and physically purchased Vita titles on a big screen for 100$, as well as have a 2nd Vita - which allows you to play any local multiplayer games you might have on Vita over Ad-Hoc on a big screen. What do I mean by this? suppose you have a Vita and a PS TV, and bought Blazblue: Continuum Shift Extend digitally, due to the fact that you have 3 portable activations, you can download the game to both Vita and PS TV, and then use the ad-hoc local multiplayer feature in the game to have Player 1 use a controller, and Player 2 use the Vita, and both players looking at the screen. BAM - instant local multiplayer support for any digital game you might have purchased that has ad-hoc support. Aside from all of the above, the device is also a Media player (albeit restricted with formats and storage, but with slight configuration of a PC, you can stream compatible content directly from the PC using the built in Vita media apps and eliminate the storage issue, and the ability to network via Ethernet solves a lot of problems with streaming speed, theoretically nothing is stopping you from setting up a Static IP on both laptop and PS TV and simply directly connect the two. solves the need to have a laptop with HDMI output.). Itll also be a pretty good Netflix/Hulu/youtube device, once those apps are updated to support it, so you can even buy it just for that and get the gaming options as a bonus. The main concern I see people raising all the time when reviewing it is lack of support for some games/apps, but do you really think this is a long term issue? more than likely this will be fixed for most relevant games very soon, and if a specific game is not compatible - contact the dev via Twitter / facebook and ask them to update it. If a developer sees demand, and the patching process isnt significant, why wouldnt they patch it? And also, the compatibility list really isnt so bad considering the device just launched, especially considering the horrible compatibility it had as Vita TV in Japan, I own 55(!!!!) different Vita titles from the list of compatible games! and thats Vita titles only, not counting digitally owned PSP and PS1 titles I have! https://support.us.playstation/app/answers/detail/a_id/5376/~/games-compatible-with-playstation-tv tl;dr - The PS TV is an awesome purchase at the ridiculous price of 100$ + 20$ for Memory Card if needed, and is a multi-functional device with tons of different use cases (anyone with any experience in the PS ecosystem will find stuff to play on it that he hadnt before) and a ton of features, give it a thought before shrugging it off.
