Is it our sworn enemies who cause us to put distance between ourself and our creator or could it be allowing those little day to day nuisances with those closest to us to separate us from God? Therese of Lisieux seemed to hone in on this dilemma rapidly in her early days at Carmel and seemed to understand that her daily interactions with her sisters (those most close to her) were what challenged her the most. While we certainly should attempt to love those who we hate it seems as important to learn to look at those closest to us through the eyes if God when they are annoying us or causing us discomfort. As we turn the corner in Lent may we ask God to make us desire his face and his embrace.
