Is she too fat to be a Health Minister? Critics attack 20-stone woman leading Belgiums battle against obesity: mirror.co.uk/news/weird-news/fat-health-minister-critics-attack-4435156 There is major online controversy over the selection of 52-year old Maggie De Block to serve as the Health Minister in Belgium. The popular political figure there weighs in at nearly 300 pounds and some people believe that disqualifies her from serving in this governmental position promoting public health. De Block has been a general practitioner for a quarter century and believes that knowledge and wisdom of working with patients more than gives her the right to talk about issues of health on behalf of her country. Its an interesting real-life example of who should be allowed to talk about health and who shouldnt. Ive been told in no uncertain terms many times over the years that I shouldnt be allowed to discuss nutrition and healthy living simply based upon how I look and that I dont have the perfect body. Never mind the fact my blood health markers are spectacular, that doesnt matter to the judgmental eye of the online world as they lash out like they have against anyone who doesnt meet their standards. Im willing to give this lady the benefit of the doubt and will take a wait and see approach. Jumping to conclusions about the job she would do in that role is narrow minded thinking. As we know, obesity has a wide variety of factors that may or may not be associated with diet. I think a more compassionate position about this is what is so sorely needed now more than ever before and Ill be the first to wish Maggie De Block the best of success in her new role.
