Isidingos infamous villain Barker (Robert Whitehead) scooped the Outstanding Villain Award at the Royalty Soapie Awards. We asked him about his character... Q 1: Where do you get your baddie inspiration? Robert: Some actors like me have a knack for playing villain, they also have a comedy side. I infuse Barker with a comic edge so to make him entertaining as well. Also, it has to do with a lifetime of watching movies, reading books and following the news. Q2: If Barker had a villain’s lair, where is it and can you describe it? Robert: It would be the Old stock exchange building in Hallard Street, his office would be the trading hall. Q3: When in public what’s the reaction that you get from people who see you as Barker not Robert? Robert: They are amazed that i am walking around in a crap old t-shirt and old converse tekkies. Not looking a little bit stylish, they still say ”how is it Barker” in a very friendly manner. Q4: Advice to upcoming actors who want to play villain someday... Robert: Get to be an actor first, find out if you can do act then establish if playing villain is your strength.
