Islam on my mind this morning: the Muslims refer to it as Jihad while the Christians call it crusade. However, these are mere nomenclatures deployed by adherents of both religions to forcefully convert the unfaithful in their warped imaginations. While the concept of crusade has evolved overtime and properly situated in a modern and dynamic world, the followers of Islam still stick to literal adherence of jihad practiced over 1000 years ago. I need some education here and I need it fast. It is strange that many Muslims will drag their feet in condemnation of despicable acts committed by misguided and brain dead individuals in the name of the religion. I have read the Koran and have not seen where the Holy Book commanded the faithfuls to blow up innocent people in the name of God, yet such criminality are rarely condemned by many Muslims. Most believe that condemning a fellow Muslim is wrong not withstanding fellow Muslims are killed. I am appalled by the pandering of those who see a fellow Muslim in Cairo, Durban, Tunis, Amman, etc as their brothers instead of fellow citizens who are non Muslims. For them it is okay, yet they still consider their fellow countrymen as strangers. The surprise is that they still want a united country. What manner of unity is that? Most of the problem is derived from middle east. The irony again is that Palestinians are Arabs first before Muslims. The Muslims see the Christians there as part of them. The late President Yasser Arafat never missed Easter and Christmas vigils when he was alive. Hannah Ashrawi never considered herself a Christian in all her job in liberating Palestine. So are we simply misguided for the sake of it? I am thoroughly convinced that there is nothing wrong with Christianity and Islam as has been demonstrated by the Palestinians. The problem is our selfish understanding and interpretation of the Holy Books. Are we simply irredeemable?
