It has truly been a day of rest. Tucker is doing really good for having surgery yesterday. Last night was a struggle to get his pain medication adjusted. Its especially difficult because hes become immune to most doses. A dose of morphine that should last 2 hours was lasting around 30 minutes. I was a little perturbed because the nurse was basically waiting for him show his temper before even getting the med from pharmacy, so then it would take even longer. We alternated between morphine and versed. It all ended up okay but a long night. This morning they started a fentonyl drip along with precedex (anxiety med) and hes been way more tolerant. He still has all of the lines and chest tube. The catheter came out this morning. He has an arterial line in his right leg (blood clot is in the vein in the same leg) but they had to cut in his fat at the top of his thigh to get it in. They couldnt feel the artery on the surface. This line not only gives blood for blood gasses but also monitors blood pressure closely. His is high, also a side effect of the pain. Therefore, today has been a day of healing sleep. Im sure his head feels terrible as well as the pain in the rest of his body. We tried to take the oxygen off, however his saturation levels became too low. Although hes fighting it being in his nose, Id rather him have help breathing without trying to struggle with another thing. Hes got enough to deal with right now!
