It is a bizarre feeling to call a mens prison about your friend who is a transwoman incarcerated in that prison, use she/her pronouns, and have the correctional officer on the other end of the phone use the appropriate pronouns right back at you to explain when her visiting hours are. Trans misogyny is so deep, particularly in the criminal punishment system that I expect to see it everywhere as that has been my experience until this one tiny moment.
