It is a sad day at the Lammers house in Madison. We came home from a couple of days in Vermont and found our last kitty had passed away during our absence. Zino had some heart issues so it was not totally unexpected but a terrible shock none the less. We are now without an animal companion in our household for the first time in 30 years. For Lisa, the first time in 50 years she has not had cat companion. We are both devastated, but will get through this. The only solace we can take is knowing the love, joy, & happiness he brought into our lives immensely eclipses the loss and sorrow we now feel. I still remember when we moved here from Phoenix with 7 cats and the two porters at the airport, one with 4 cat carriers and one with 3, rolling them through Bradley airport after our trip back east. Everyone at the airport had a smile and a small laugh on their faces. It was, in fact, hilarious. Everyone thought Lisa and I were a little out there, and I guess we were. For those of you with animal companions, you know of what I speak. It never gets easier for we have been through this many times for many reasons. Here I am 60 years old and I still cant help from tearing up every time I think about him. I think Paul McCartney said it best in his lyrics, And in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make. And we absolutely believe that applies to our animal companions as well! Tonight, give your animal companion a hug, scratch, kiss or whatever sign of affection you use for their time with us is much too short. And thank-you Lord for allowing us to welcome these companions into our home and make our lives that much better.
