It is my honor to introduce H.R. 4446, the Dignified Interment of Our Veterans Act of 2014. This bill will require the Secretary of Veterans Affairs to conduct a study on how the unclaimed remains of our veterans are identified and processed, so that the effectiveness of current procedures can be properly evaluated. There are an estimated 47,000 of these remains stored around the country, sometimes in metal canisters and for decades at a time. This is not how our heroes should be treated, and these brave men and women who fought for our freedom should be laid to rest with the appropriate military honors that they deserve.
