It is no news that the Edo State Governor Comrade Adams Oshiomole yesterday the 24th of June 2013, at the on-going Law Week of the Nigeria Bar Association (Benin branch) faulted the call of the President of the Nigeria Bar Association Mr Okey Wali, (SAN) for the proscription of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum over its recent controversial election that attracted national attention. The comrade Governor noted that it is disheartening that the learned SAN who is the president of a legal community with better understanding of the provisions of the constitution could make such a call as that negates the provision of the constitution on Freedom of Association. I am not antagonistic to the position of the comrade Governor on Freedom of Association but the questions begging for answers are: is the Governors’ Forum not at the expense of tax payers’ money? Were the governors elected to form association at the expense of tax payers’ money or to represent the interest of Nigerians and to make and pursue policies for the betterment of Nigerians? It is rather funny and laughable that while the rate of unemployment is sky rocketing daily, poverty has become a household name and corruption is elevated to prominence in virtually every government parastatals our Governors are busy fighting themselves over their personal interest in the purported Governors Forum. As at today, UNICEF highlighted that Nigeria has 1/5 of the worlds out-of-school children or could that also be a dividend of democracy?
