It is so important that veterans and Americans understand, when people (families and patients) place their confidence and trust into a treatment facility- any, there is an expectation of safety, competency and caring hearts fro the work that needs to be done. This includes the Veterans Healthcare Administration facilities, known as medical centers. Mistakes occur, but negligence, and gross negligence are benchmarks of indifference, and possibly point to discrimination and abuse through neglect. When a patient dies in a 24 hour skilled care facility and there is a cover up, the culture may be abusive, at the least rotten to its foundation, and possibly criminal. It is time every American, including veterans read the writing on the wall, the VHA and its parent organization will only change if we are vigilant, and if we have the support of Congress and the Media. Supporting a complete OVERHAUL does not mean there is no confidence in Mr McDonald. It means, this STOPS here and now. If you do not know of abuse, negligence or indifference in the VA systems, then you must live a very sheltered life and you may not want to believe it exists. It does, and we cannot tolerate being minimized, marginalized or passed over anymore. Health and well being are serious responsibilities in life. Veterans who served honorably deserve respect at these facilities. Veterans are the victims of this culture indifference, abuse, institutional discrimination . The who work for the VA and VHA earn a living providing services and care to veterans, they should be adopting the slogan Veterans First. While whislteblowers need protections, but employees there work there voluntarily- they can leave anytime. The focus should only be on the veterans who depend on the VA and VHA for services and health care. The VA was not established to serve its employees.
