It is time that I addressed this abominable, cynical, - TopicsExpress

It is time that I addressed this abominable, cynical, disrespectful assholism that is manifesting itself in the band/recording that is re-creating Kind of Blue, note for note. Miles Davis summed up his life experience and poured is soul and intellect into this project. I tried to avoid this, but I see this as even being racist. Now some Great White Hopes are trivializing this masterpiece to the level of a mere technical exercise. Could they even play something of their own that even touches on the brilliance of KInd of Blue. This tantamount to exhuming Miles corpse, pissing on it, eating it and making off with his jewelry. What is creepy is that all their bullshit rhetoric and intellectual arguments aside, this is clearly for some money. Being that this is getting the press, more than any jazz record lately, and the controversy it is generating, this piece of shit could conceivably be a top, if not the, top seller of the year. How many Sonny Rollins records have gotten this much attention? This of course, will not be the end of it. Soon we will have clones of A Love Supreme, The Hot Fives, Sonny Rollins at the Village Vanguard, Bird With Strings and the Carnegie Hall concerts of Duke Ellington and Benny Goodman. This will have the effect of reducing our music to venues like the beer bars I played in the sixties that demanded record copies of R & B hits. A further irony and slap in the face to Miles Davis was when in the 80s he addressed the neo-cons in the 80s with, Whats the matter? Didnt we get it right the first time? Now they are answering, F--k you, Miles Davis! No you didnt! Of course, this is not only a slap in the face to Miles Davis but to every musician who has paid his dues and tries to make a living playing his/her music. As jazz players/composers/creators even though they may be strangers. we have it on authority to take this bowel movement personally. Even Beethoven isnt so disrespected. There were no recordings in his time so a Beethoven symphony is still open for interpretation. I would tell these pricks that they should be ashamed of themselves but my protestations would fall on deaf ears, because they would not only care, but have already shown us that they have no integrity or sense of shame.
