It is truly sad to continue hearing the reports of lives lost in our nation, its as if the value of life has been placed on auction and our consience becoming seared. We must rise today as a nation against this evil, we must always ensure we put Bahamian ideals, opportunities and provisions above all others. We must ensure we inspire others to patriotism and pride in our nation! We must unite as people and stand together against the devises of the special interest and foreign interest, the heightened crime and violence on our streets, we must always ensure provisions are made for future generations and create a safety net for those that may have fallen through the cracks or may not have been provided opportunities due to financial challenges. This is indeed a difficult position, but I believe there are more right thinking Bahamians that realize we must! I Stand today asking you all to join me in this nationalist position, our national issues transend the political divide! We must stand UNITED and ACT now! While I do recognize that change cannot happen overnight and that no single speech can eradicate years of mistrust, nor can I answer in the time that I have all the complex questions that brought us to this point. But I am convinced that in order to move forward, we must say openly the things we hold in our hearts, and that too often are said only behind closed doors. There must be a sustained effort to listen to each other; to learn from each other; to respect one another; and to seek common ground. I am humbled by the task before us, and am firm in my belief that the interests we share as human beings are far more powerful than the forces that drive us apart. Of course, recognizing our common humanity is only the beginning of our task. Words alone cannot meet the needs of our people. These needs will be met only if we act boldly in the months and years ahead, if we understand that the challenges we face are shared and our failure to meet them will hurt us all! This is a difficult responsibility to embrace. However, We can defeat the evil and corruption that divides us, but we can only achieve this together, as our future and progress are intertwined!
