It must be the new baby boy I have, or I am just a sap, but simply observing a little 4-5 year old boy dressed immaculately in wranglers, and a tucked in western shirt, with a huge belt buckle to tie it all together, shining the biggest grin I have ever seen, got me teary eyed. He was exiting the local gas station about an hour ago. The little guy was holding a donut in one hand and a soda in the other. With him, Im assuming his grandpa, cane in hand, holding the door open with the other, shining just as big of a smile. Now what you might ask, whats the big deal about that? Well for that minute moment all the shittty moments I have observed over the last few weeks were gone. That little boy was so proud to be with his grandpa, and so happy that he got a treat. He wouldnt want to be anywhere else in the world, nowhere, right next to his grandpa was it, and believe it or not, hell probably remember that moment forever. Like I said, Im a sap. but what really pushed me over the edge is right after that I was listening to my sports show Jim Rome, who was interviewing a football player whos 4 year old daughter was just diagnosed with cancer. I had to call my wife to fight of the actual tears. Just last week I observed a another parent smacking a 3 year old child in the face with a magazine through a car window as the child sat in a car seat and called him an idiot, and my wife and I observed another mother yelling at her kids in the Winco parking lot that she hated them, and wanted them to all die, at the top of her lungs. I honestly believe some people should just not have kids, but ya know, you dont need a license to have em, just working parts. So seeing this lil boy this morning just set off some emotions. Its Good to know there are good, loving, and at the same time strict parents out there, because I damn well guarantee that grandpa, all though kind and loving, was strict, and that boy respected him for that. Ok enough of that...have a good Friday everyone. Love those that depend on you, and they will love you back (well most the time :P)
