It seems like police officers are characterized as either heroes or villains, when in fact they are as complicated as the rest of us and should be held accountable like other citizens. I lived in New York for three years and I found it interesting that the police cars had CPR (Courtesy, Professionalism, Respect) written on the side, but I witnessed many officers disregard all three standards, especially when writing very questionable tickets to meet revenue quotas at the end of the month. I admire, value and respect police officers and the work they do, but cops that seek unnecessary confrontation and have a pattern of bully behavior undermine trust between authority and the public. Police departments that dont discipline officers that make mistakes and maintain policies that harass the community do themselves a disservice and undermine their own effectiveness.
