It seems many of you have been following the story in regards to the Air NZ flights from Whakatane being cancelled which broke yesterday - M.D Glenn Smith has received many messages since last night including this one from Margaret... The Bay of Plenty extends a very long way from Whakatane / Tauranga and Rotorua. Looking toward this 2015 year, when we will celebrate the 100th, sad but forever grateful tribute to those heroic defenders of this country, and in many of those promising lives lost, many were Maori boys, sent from this beautiful bay. This amazing coastline succoured many small communities who willingly gave most of their young men to a cause that they did not understand, couldnt comprehend, but gave, in true Maori way, to the challenge of an obscure threat. These young Maori, went away as hopeful young innocents to protect this land that you will now isolate. Yes Air New Zealand, you celebrate your 75th year in servicing this country, a service which was bought and paid for by Kiwis and maintained for many of those years by Kiwis, but you are blatantly ignoring the sacrifice of this community nearly 100 years ago and what this area has to offer. You fly the flag, spend countless dollars in promoting our All Blacks by painting your fleet black with the Silver Fern, (would that outlay have been better spent???) but you now abandon the very roots of your vast revenue building empire, having to justify to your shareholders (who if Kiwis had paid again for a shareholding already owned by them, by right of taxes paid) AIR NEW ZEALAND, I WILL NEVER FLY WITH YOU AGAIN!!
