It seems that The Australian’s Media Editor Sharri Markson and I - TopicsExpress

It seems that The Australian’s Media Editor Sharri Markson and I have one thing in common; we only rocked up to a few lectures at journalisming school. However, it seems as though we didn’t share the same experience. Sharri wrote about her experience in a killer exposé yesterday, so I offer you some points of difference: Sharri found that there was a strong anti-Murdoch bias taught at UTS and USYD, whereas I was tied down and forced to read The Advertiser every bloody day at UniSA. I narrowly avoided complete brainwashing from diving into the excellent Food & Wine section. Sharri found that students were being indoctrinated into climate change belieber cults by the suggestion that false balance in reporting is distorting, whereas I was given lectures on the amazing Alan Kohler and the wonders of finance reporting. I don’t even remember a science reporting elective. Sharri found that students were being turned into evil lefties by lefty leftist pinko muslim greenie commie academics, whereas I went to uni with a guy who wanted to send everybody with AIDS to die off on a remote island. At least half my course wanted to be sports reporters, the other half wanted to be Sandra Sully. Sharri found that those evil lefty academics were lecturing about the dangers of an oligopolistic media system dominated by a few wealthy patrons, whereas I learned that journalism was a dead industry quickly being replaced by political propaganda. I didn’t learn that last one at uni though. I learned that by reading The Australian.
