It would seem Im not the only one having a troubling day/week... thinking about it, I think maybe a Soapbox is in order... Adversity makes us Beautiful. I know this has often been said with several cliches.. the rose from concrete... coal into diamonds... the feeling of triumph once youve overcome that which plagues you.... All of these are fine. They add to that box of memories and experiences that we usually go back to years later for various reasons... most of us have heard this junk a million times, Id like to focus on a portion of the beauty that most of us overlook. Finding Joy in your Adversity. This in and of itself can be hard. looking for happiness when your circumstances are less than seems useless, but in truth it can change your perspective enough to make crossing that finish line much more rewarding. Thanks captain obvious! That does nothing to help me figure out where to look though.. Easy killer... Im long winded... you should know this by now. Moving on.... Earlier today I found myself having trouble being happy Facing adversity, as I currently am, I really just wanted a reason to smile. There was none.... until I began skimming Facebook. I noticed several dozen posts of others having bad days... stuff ranging from simplistic and unpleasant all the way to downright heartbreaking. My initial reaction was offense... which quickly turned to empathy. I found myself dropping encouraging words and reaching out to those who seemed to be in my same boat of emotion... And at the end of it all-I realized by doing so... I Felt Lighter. I was actually smiling. Each selfless act and knowing that I might be a comfort to someone else whose just as melancholy helped me take my mind away from myself... in turn alleviating the sinking feeling... I found Joy during adversity. And the ability to do that... is Beautiful. My suggestion to you today. Comfort someone else. Its very hard To successfully do this without investing emotionally, even if its just a little. I think youll find that at the end of doing so youll feel lighter too. And when you finally look back on this adversity it will be an even more beautiful memory because of that part. Love Harder. Grow Wiser. Pay It Forward. TGIF
