Given most of the people who lurk around on my Facebook timeline are broadly round about my age, then I dont exactly need to C&P from Wikipedia to explain how popular Neighbours was when it débuted in the UK in 1986, or how deeply the Ramsay Street residents embedded themselves in 80s UK culture (and long long after). Favourite among those residents was a fresh-faced young actress playing a tomboy mechanic called Charlene, and her romance with neighbour Scott captured the imagination of the nation (well, the sad little part of it to which I belonged). The marriage of Scott and Charlene, played by Jason Donovan and Kylie, was a great soap event in 87, and spawned a massive hit, Suddenly, by Angry Anderson. Kylies eponymous début album was released in 1987, and Jason Donovans was scheduled for 1988 but Stock, Aitken and Waterman felt it needed a killer single. Cue this duet, exploiting the huge popularity of the couple (who enjoyed an on- and off-again real-life romance in parallel to their soap adventures). Yes, I know, the HATERZ GONNA HATE.
