Its Friday, the 24th day of October, 2014. Its also Saunders Terrells Birthday. We know him better as Sonny Terry. You cant think about Sonny Terry with out thinking about his partner, Brownie McGhee. This duo performed American Piedmont Blues from 1941, until Terrys death on March 11, 1986. Sonny was born in 1911, in Greensboro, Georgia. His father was a farmer, who taught him how to play the Blues harp. Sonny sustained injuries, when he was sixteen, that caused his blindness. He began to play the Blues, in order to make a living. He started playing in Shelby, North Carolina. He started playing Piedmont blues-style guitarist Blind Boy Fuller. When Fuller died, in 1941, he teamed up with Brownie McGee. Both he and Browine McGee appeared in the Steven Spielberg film, The Color Purple.
