Its Throw Back Thursday here at the North Star Museum! Lent to us by the Girl Scouts River Valleys, we have a wonderful collection of Girl Scout exhibits that were created by the Girl Scouts Heritage Committee. We present: A Girl Scout Cadette uniform, circa 1962 - 1971. It was the decade of changes; of flower children and hippies shouting for peace. President Kennedy, Bobby Kennedy and Martin Luther King were assassinated. Feminism, the Beatles and Sesame Street all emerged. The Cadette program in Girl Scouts had specialized badges for girls that presented challenges that asked them to demonstrate their proficiency in various areas. This Cadette uniform is a beautiful piece from this collection that has been so graciously lent to us by GSRV. While Cadettes still wore berets, their hats now featured a distinctive cockade, and their skirt had a hidden pocket beneath a decorate flap. This uniform is a part of the time capsule for 1962 - 1971, and it is displayed with several other artifacts from that time period. Come visit us at the North Star Museum and see what else this decade - and many others - has to show you! Real people, real stories. Here, at the North Star Museum!
