Its a while since I featured some things out of my collection, so today I thought I would show you a couple of fragments that once upon a time would have been part of a mirror frame. To be more correct - they would have been destined to go on a mirror frame, as I dont believe they ever got there. While all of the background elements have been embroidered with beautiful tiny stitching, the lion and unicorn themselves have been left a line drawing. A mirror that came up at auction recently had exactly the same lion and background surrounding him with a very similar unicorn! That got me even more excited as I had always believed that they were from a mirror! They are worked in completely flat stitches - no Stumpwork here - but they are from the Stuart era - 1650-1700.
