Wallan Office Set For Relocation Following extensive research, Mitchell Shire Council has found new office accommodation for our Wallan based Planning and Building Departments. Council Staff will relocate to 61 High Street Wallan later this year, occupying the space that has been vacated by the Federal Member for McEwen Rob Mitchell, as well as an office next door. The new office will not only provide space for Council staff, it will also have large and small meeting rooms that can be hired by community groups both in and out of business hours. “This office move is very exciting news for our Staff and the Community. While Wellington Square was fit for Council’s purposes five years ago, our staffing profile and ways of working have changed significantly in that time. We’re bursting at the seams there,” explained Council’s Chief Executive Officer, Rebecca McKenzie. “The new office provides twice as much space for the same financial outlay, and also enables us to fill a pressing need for community meeting space,” said CEO McKenzie, “It’s a win-win outcome.” Also commenting on the future move, Mayor Cr Rodney Parker indicated, “Council is committed to maintaining our primary municipal base in Broadford, but it makes sense for us to also have a strong presence in Wallan.” “Wallan, Beveridge and Lockerbie will see the majority of Mitchell’s future growth. Having the services associated with planning for growth located in close proximity will make it easier for our customers to access them.” The Wallan Library and Customer Services will continue to be located in Wellington Square for the foreseeable future. “Council’s 2014/15 budget includes a $4million allocation for the purchase of land in the south ward for future community facilities,” explained Mayor Parker, “Ideally, in the long term, this means that Council will be able to locate both office and community services in one new purpose built facility,”
