Its really amazing to finally realize something which you dont quite get for a long while,and the best part of it is that you stumble upon it in the most unusual way possible? I remember my mentors Mr Rosli & Mr Key Johan giving me valuable advise back then with regards to my musical journey and my playing. ATTITUDE its all about Attitude in your playing Khai! You play for the song & the music! Of course back then,who would have thought, like I would even understood the smallest portion of their valuable advice. Definitely not me! I was on my normal You Tube spree of clicking videos,not really sure what I was looking for and I happen to chance upon this video link below where Christophe Godin explains the difference between - A Jazz Guitarist & Rock Guitarist. Whoa! sounds serious & interesting enough of a topic for me to click on. Lets Check It Out! I gave 12 mins & 1 second of my time which I know I wont get back, to watched the video,hoping to learn & find something useful which I can apply to my musical journey & life. The first half of the video,really took me by surprise as I really was not expecting it to be like this. Students learn a lot of things, We did right? However theres one thing we did not learn, Its ATTITUDE! and I was like WHAT? throughout the video,it really got goofy and without realizing it I was taken away from my initial intention and it felt like watching a comedy skit. The second half of the video there were some things that he said that brought me back. One of it was, Mother Nature Has A Sense For Things. When You Have Something, You Always Have The Exact opposite! Oh well.... at least he did his best to keep it light heartedly despite the very deep meaning behind the statement. And so as I reflect back what my mentors told me before. I finally understood what they were actually trying to teach me. Its all about ATTITUDE! Ive heard of sayings and quotes that ATTITUDE Is 100%, if you add up the Alphabets in the word Attitude taking A = 1 , T = 20 , T = 20 , I = 9 , T = 20 , U = 21 , D = 4 , E = 5 ATTITUDE = 100% So much for the Math. LOL! I learned something from this video and I finally understood what my mentors had taught me after some time. Some things require you to go through a process before you finally unravel the true meaning of it. Its the test of time and definitely an enlightening one for myself. To be honest,I really didnt expect it to be this way but, I realized I had learned more than just about playing the guitar and the music itself. I learned about life as well. The best part of it was I learned it through a rather comical way Id say. Watch the video & youd probably have an idea of what Im saying & I hope youll find your own enlightenment ITS ALL ABOUT ATTITUDE! In a musical context, dont try to play complicated things, you cant Just do it with ATTITUDE!
