Its startling to see how accessible US media and news outlets are around the world. One day Im in a tiny boutique hotel on the outskirts of Aqaba, Jordan and up pops former CNET coworker Roger Cheng talking intelligently about gadgets, and last week I was in a remote Ethiopian alpine area and a local restaurant is watching CNN (the people there didnt speak English well at all). Everywhere I go I find TVs turned to CNBC or CNN (the english version of Al Jazeera is also popular). People in the places Ive been have a huge amount of respect for US media. There are some complaints and questions about government influence but most people Ive talked to think were largely impartial and competent. They also envy our press freedoms, which sadly are rare in this part of the world. Proud of you USA and US media.
