Its time to say Good Night, Olivia. NOW Magazine (in a surprisingly incisive, spot-on open letter) served Chow up the ultimate softball: Show us your humanity; your wit. Look upon the utter insanity of what falls around you and call it for what it is. Be direct, be forceful. Show us your (alleged) personality, vision and (again, alleged) humour. Chow responds with talking points and boilerplate campaignspeak. I could barely keep my eyes open reading it. The truth is, no matter how much the media on the left want Chow to be Jack Layton, or even David Miller, shes not. She is well-intentioned and earnest, but she is utterly lacking in what it takes to win the office of mayor in a city that is still -- and will remain for the foreseeable future -- sadly amalgamated with several suburbs, all with vastly different priorities but all susceptible to the sort of cult of personality and easy answers that put Rob Ford into office. I dont think Doug is gonna win this election. Im with NOW -- he aint Rob, whatever that implies. But he certainly is one evil, mean-spirited duplicitous motherf**ker. And as a voter, you play the hand youre dealt. Im not in Toronto right now, but if I were, I would not risk splitting the vote by going with Chow. Thought it saddens me to say it, the smart vote is for John Tory. Better luck next time.
