We live about 15 minutes from Thomson and are always impressed with what an outstanding market and café the little town has at the center of it. What used to be a roadside farm stand is now a beautiful and clean market and café. The market sells heirloom garden seeds, specialty foods and small gifts along with some seasonal items. The café has cozy décor along with a fireplace and an attached high end outdoor patio. For food, sandwiches, Paninis, soup, salad, coffee, smoothies, pastries and ice cream are the bulk of the lunch fare and weve never had a bad, or even poor, meal there. The staff is always friendly and the prices are reasonable. While everything listed above makes for a very nice café and market, its what else they do that really sets this gem apart. On many Saturdays they have live music in the morning, called the Old Time Heirloom Hour, its a flashback to more simple, friends and family, get togethers - very rare to see something like this anywhere these days. In Fall, they have a festival with a petting zoo, live music, hayrack rides, games, bouncy houses, food, pumpkins, straw maze and much more. In December they have a Holiday festival - last year they had real reindeer, a live manger scene with people and real animals, there was a large ice skating they created along with ice skates you could rent inexpensively. In the spring and summer they have a farmers market each Saturday morning - these are getting hard to find, especially one this nice. In summary, the Heirloom Café isnt just a stop along the road, its a destination for our family and many others. M.J. Morrison, IL.
