It’s Not About You | Daily Devotionals | Blog | NewSpring Church Read: 2 Corinthians 2:1-11 We hear the words “it’s not all about you” a lot these days. Sometimes it’s a genuine reminder toward selflessness. Sometimes it’s pushback on someone who deserves it. Other times, it’s code for “it’s not about you because it’s all about me.” We all assign great importance to ourselves at one time or another. In 2 Corinthians 2:11 Paul says we should live “in order that Satan might not outwit us.” So, how is Satan trying to outwit us? Satan’s plan is pretty simple. In life, people inevitably hurt, insult or otherwise offend us. When this happens, we must decide how we are going to react, respond and recover. Satan tries to keep our focus on the offense and the offender, which is a backhanded way of focusing on ourselves as we believe we deserve some sort of revenge or justice. Paul was also offended, but he said to forgive. Even more, Paul encouraged forgiveness when anger seems justifiable. Our God is a God of grace and forgivness. Not only should we forgive, but we should seek to offer grace to our offenders through comfort and love. God reaches toward us with His forgiveness, comfort and love regardless of how or how many times we may have offended Him. Paul teaches us to live the same way toward others. When we do, Satan is defeated. Reflect: Are you struggling with an offender in your life? What action can you begin today to forgive as Paul teaches?
