Ive been a Democrat all my life, but latest developments in the roll out of the Affordable Care Act are seriously shaking my faith. My family policy with which I was quite happy at $23,000 p.a. got canceled and replaced with a $36,000 p.a. policy, a 50 percent rise for the same coverage (and I thought the ACA was supposed to reduce premiums!). Obamas promise that I could keep my health plan if I wanted to turned out to be, well, a lie, and worse, when he tried to fix this mistake by allowing the States to re-issue canceled policies for one more year, the Democratic Governor of Connecticut, Dan Malloy, refused to allow this to happen. Malloy was elected on a 7,000 margin of victory in 2010 and I think hes going down in 2014 just on the votes of angry voters like me! From my limited vantage the ACA is a disaster at this stage of its development; I hope things get better but I am beginning to think the Republicans are right that this piece of legislation could lead to some very serious economic consequences for the country.
