Ive been conflicted about the notion of a doctorate in business administration (HBS offers one, for example). This article, by historian Jill Lepore, completely eviscerates what is widely considered a high watermark in business school scholarship, Christensens The Innovators Dilemma (aka Disruptive Innovation). She critiques it on the merits of historical analysis and logic and finds it sorely wanting. I do wish historians would take the history of business more seriously so we wouldnt have to rely on the lite versions coming out of business schools. Historians rarely do, but a great example is Joyce Applebee at UCLA, who wrote a book called The Relentless Revolution: A History of Capitalism.
