Ive been using a carbohydrate drink for the last 11 months that is little known, but worth spending a some time introducing. Its called Superstarch, from a company called Generation UCAN UK. Its a slow-release carb that is very easy on the stomach (so if you struggle with gut-rot when taking in sugary energy drinks and gels, this could be your answer), and has a very flat blood glucose spike and corresponding lower insulin response, so much less sugar-hit-sugar-crash syndrome. Also, lower serum insulin levels mean better fat oxidation, which is what we want (higher serum insulin levels suppresses fat burning and causes us to rely more on glucose and glycogen, which for longer rides means constant topping up with carbs - spike-crash cycle and, for some, gut rot). For those that like graphs, Ive attached a few! Ill do a separate post a bit later with a few links. Ive spoken to the UK distributor and she is going to give the club a 10% discount code. You can buy sachets as well as tubs - obviously the sachets are a good option for trying before committing to a tub.
