Ive been very blessed to be a teacher. Sometimes the moments all - TopicsExpress

Ive been very blessed to be a teacher. Sometimes the moments all run together and it’s difficult to distinguish one day from another or one class from another. How many times have I told the same story or why I recall one better than another? But I’m fortunate that I’ll see former students once in a while who say nice things and confirm that the stories and the study and the subject made a difference. It means a lot. Students have asked me what moment in history I would go to if I could go back in time. The question has always intrigued me and I rarely answer quickly. People assume I’d say a big moment. To Jesus’ time, to the 19th century that I love or to the founding of our great nation. But the truth is, I don’t think I would pick those moments if I could only pick one. I’d go to the simplest of moments. I’d go visit my ancestors or some pioneer family. I wouldn’t want them to do anything special. I wouldn’t want them to know I was there. I’d just want to visit and view and then leave. In the end, isn’t that the study of history? The desire to see, to know who they were. Not the dates, not the statistics, but the life between the dates. The life that was lived.
