Ive been wanting to do this one for a while now... West End streetcar (Car #605, inset), heading riverbound on Esplanade Avenue, approaching the intersection of St. Claude (now Henriette Delille St.) on an October afternoon in 1921. Its not so much that the neutral ground was any wider then; N.O. Railway & Light Co. (later NOPSI, today New Orleans Regional Transit Authority) merely saw fit to run the cars very close to the oak trees — with so little clearance, in fact, that... well, suffice to say theres a very good reason those Keep Hands Inside Window signs are posted inside every streetcar to this day!
