Ive got something to say about the Ben Affleck/Bill Maher - TopicsExpress

Ive got something to say about the Ben Affleck/Bill Maher discussion on Islam, and if anyone would like to join this conversation and provide a different outlook, Id be happy to hear it. TLDR: Ben Affleck is full of shit. All across my news feed, I see people or groups praising Ben Affleck for calling Bill Maher racist or an islamaphobe because he had something say regarding Islam. I disagree not only with Afflecks position, but his behavior as well. First of all, it was supposed to be a discussion, not a screaming match. Right off the bat, Affleck is yelling and throwing out accusations at Bill Maher and Sam Harris. He could hardly allow Maher or Harris a word without interrupting with some backhanded remark. Dont believe me? Watch the video. Secondly, one of the backhanded remarks he made towards Sam Harris questioned his credibility when it comes to speaking about Islam. Sam Harris has done seminars, public debates, and written multiple books on Christianity, Atheism, and Islam. He has studied it extensively. Not only was Afflecks comment ineffective, but also blatantly ironic, considering what the hell qualifies BEN AFFLECK to speak about Islam? If there is a reason, enlighten me. Because when I hear Ben Affleck, I think Dare Devil, not theological expert and activist. Finally, the argument presented by Affleck. No idea is immune from criticism, considering any sort of criticism is protected by the First Amendment. Islam is included in this. Calling someone racist for commenting on Islam makes ZERO sense. Islam is not a race, it is an ideology, and it is an ideology held by Muslims of MANY different races. Also, Afflecks use of the word islamaphobe is used incorrectly. Does Islamaphobia exist? Yes, and this can be seen by the average public opinion about Islam right after 9-11. Uneducated, hate inciting, or just false assertions about Muslims fall under Islamaphobia. Critical examination of the religion itself is NOT bigoted, and does not constitute a phobia. There is no liberalphobia, conservaphobia, Chritianaphobia, and people certainly hold no qualms against speaking out against atheism. I am not some Bill Maher fanboy, nor have I agreed with everything that Sam Harris has said. But to call them bigoted and racist for their critical examination and views on an IDEA is just ridiculous. If you think Im wrong about these points, I would love to discuss. m.youtube/watch?v=XduMMteTEbc
