Ive had a lot of conversations this week about the Temporary Gains of offshoring versus the long term damage to Australias economy. This debate is missing the point: we do not have the luxury any more to choose. There are several billion workers in our global backyard, and millions of businesses who will be interested in selling into Australia at a fraction of the cost base of what we can implement by employing only Australians. The global business environment has changed whether we want it to or not. We cant ask capitalism to please be a little bit different for us in Australia. These are global forces, and serious implications if we do not modernise our businesses to adapt.
