Ive had lots of very kind birthday wishes and I thank all of you very much! And yes I am going to make you cry because yesterday I got the greatest gift imaginable. I was visiting with Daddy while Shirley had gone to a lunch with her lady friends. We watched some TV, he napped, I whistled and rubbed his feet, we talked and then I decided to read the newspaper so I sat in the floor in front of him and said ya wanna know whats in the Casey News? and started reading the front page about Steve Sweeneys retirement as Liberty Mayor when I felt my daddy pull his fingers through my hair. I had sat in that very spot 40 years ago where my momma had brushed my hair for the last time, so it took my breath just for a moment and I closed my eyes. I finished reading the article the best I could then he did it again. At that moment my heart felt so light. As if no matter what happens tomorrow, I know now that I can at least try to accept things better because my life is complete. My hair has finally been brushed out, no more tangles. Nothing left undone. I got a comb and combed his hair. Handed him the comb and I sifted through the newspaper for more good news to share as he ran the comb gently through the unruly curls a couple of times more. January 1, 2015, not a moment too soon or a day too late.
