Ive heard owning a house is better than renting - in the long run. - TopicsExpress

Ive heard owning a house is better than renting - in the long run. But is that true? What happens when you factor inflation, opportunity costs and ghost costs (repairs, upkeep, all the crap youll buy to fill all the space you have, etc). Also, when I go to upgrade/sell the house in 5-10 years for a better/bigger one, what about all the Selling/Closing fees? Factor in all the interest Im paying, is there any equity? Ive been curious and was going to do some hardcore number crunching, but it looks like a Nobel Prize Winner already did that for me: fool/investing/general/2014/05/02/the-uncomfortable-reason-your-home-is-not-a-great.aspx Anyone with insights or good arguments one way or another?
