Ive just had my meeting with Nicky Morgan. Seemed very friendly and amiable (but she is a politician!). You only get a short amount of time so I focussed on discussing the issue of arts being part of a technical education (and visa versa). We talked about how STEM (Science Technology Engineering Maths) can be expanded to STEAM (with the inclusion of Art as a key on-going element), programming in schools, support for teachers in developing computing skills, Hackspaces, how programmers need to think like artists (sometimes) and artists need to think like programmers (sometimes). She certainly seemed to be receptive to the ideas and agreed that education is about producing rounded individuals who cross disciplines. Ill continue the dialogue online and hopefully it will contribute to her thinking.
