Ive never really had much of an opinion about the name of the Washington Redskins until I recently had a good conversation with a friend of mine who is an elder on his reservation in New Mexico. I wont go in to detail but I will tell you that he, and most other native Americans that he knows, find the word incredibly offensive. He drew the distinction between the term redskin and the terms Chiefs or Seminoles or Sioux or Blackhawks. Im not going to speak for him or his people nor am I going to tell them they are wrong. I dont really know the answer but it is worth considering that maybe, just maybe, if we were native American, we might feel differently. Give it some thought.
