Ive really enjoyed posting photos from my photo archives of Petersburg, as and when I find them, and I still have so many to look through when I have time. What makes Petersburg so special is not just that its a great little town with so much character, good people and the history, but the incredible location, with so many great places to visit within a day of the town; places like Petersburg Creek and Lake, the Stikine River, LeConte Inlet, and Glacier, and Thomas Bay with its stupendous view of mountains and glaciers. I loved to explore all of Southeast Alaska in my kayak but I was never short of great outdoor activities whenever I was based in town. And within periphery of Petersburg you can expect to see a wide range of wildlife: whales, orcas, sea lions, seals, porpoises, bears, moose, wolves, mountain goats etc, and if youre lucky something unusual like the fisher that I was fortunate enough to see at very close quarters up the Stikine River. Petersburg is the complete outdoor persons dream, and of course a great place to be a photographer. Many of you will remember my whale photos that I took when I was away from Petersburg in my kayak. These two photos are amongst the few that I took close to town, and from a boat rather than my kayak. They were taken in the late 80s from Gerry Whitethorns boat somewhere near the shore between the Horn Cliffs and Thomas Bay. These were two of my most commercially successful photos, and were reproduced as posters by a major Dutch poster company and sold internationally, back in the days when there was still a thriving market for posters.
