Ive said for a long time that Geoff Berner is the best poet in Vancouver. He just sings his poems instead of speaking them. And that should not matter. Then he wrote an amazing novel and made my job of calling him the best damn poet in the city that much more complicated. But Ill keep doing it. Because its true. Come and hear him play songs and read from his new novel Festival Man at Jangle & Shout on April 6th at Astorinos. There will be Brendan McLeod taking a break from being super famous with his band, The Fugitives. There will be Amber Dawn who just won the Vancouver Book Award for How Poetry Saved My Life: a Hustlers Memoir. There will be Zaccheus Jackson being Zaccheus Jackson, one of the finest human beings I know, who has won more poetry slams than anyone can count. There will be Christie Rose breaking hearts and stealing fans. Im really proud that the festival is hosting this show. Come and drink along with the jangling and shouting and general carousing. Once its done DJ PrufRock Shadowrunner (a damn fine poet himself) will be spinning tunes in the AfterWords Lounge where you can hang out with the writers and admire the retro banquet hall decor.
